Tour Sites and Types

 

We offer four types of tour:

 

Standard tour

The standard tour can take place at any of the sites we visit. It is for anyone who wishes to go fossil hunting and can be made up of one or more groups of people (share a tour service).

   

Celebration tour

This type of tour is for those wishing to celebrate a birthday or other event in an unusual way. These tours are always exclusive. Celebration tours normally take place either at Reculver or at Hastings.

 

Expedition tour

This type of tour offers the chance to participate in a multi day, multi site experience. These tours may be exclusive or part of the share a tour service.

Beltinge in Kent

Fossils from the Eocene (30 million years old) Sharks teeth, shells

Easy access, fossils require a little searching for, suitable for celebration tours

 

 

 

Eastbourne in East Sussex

Fossils from the Cretacious (80million years old) ammonites, sharks teeth, belemnites, sponges, shells

Fossils usually require the use of a hammer to find them. 0.5mile walk along the South Downs way, steps to negotiate.

Facilities at this site: Free on road car parking, Public lavatories near by, but none on site, Cafe near by.

 

 

Folkestone in Kent

Fossils from the Cretacious (108 million years old) ammonites, belemnites, shells, marine reptiles

Fossils are easy to find, this is probably the best site in south east Britain for fossils. footpath down cliff, rocky beach to cross. This is the only site at which we insist strong protective footware such as walking boots be worn.

Facilities at this site: Free on road parking, Public lavatories (only open between Easter and September) No food outlets nearby (nearest is in Folkestone town centre).

 

 

Hastings in East Sussex

Fossils from the Cretacious (140 million years old)  shells, crustaceans, plants, pterosaurs, dinosaurs, marine and freshwater reptiles, fish, sharks

Fossils are a little harder to see, but once you have your 'eye in' they can be found everywhere. Easy access, short clamber to beach, suitable for celebration tours.

Facilities at this site: Pay parking close to the fossil hunting site (£3.00/24 hours October to Easter then £6.50/24 hours), Public lavatories, places to eat close by.

 

 

Herne bay In Kent

Fossils from the Eocene (30 million years old) Sharks teeth, shells

Easy access, fossils require a little searching for, suitable for celebration tours

Facilities at this site: Pay parking (car park and on street), lavatories and places to eat close by.

 

 

Reculver in Kent

Fossils from the Eocene (30 million years old) Sharks teeth, shells

Easy access, fossils require a little searching for, suitable for celebration tours

Facilities at this site: Pay car park, Lavatories, Food outlets close by.

 

 

Samphire Hoe in Kent

Fossils from the Cretacious (80million years old) ammonites, sharks teeth, belemnites, sponges, shells

20 min walk throuh a nature reserve, easy access, Fossils usually require the use of a hammer to find them, suitable for celebration tours.

Facilities at this site: Pay car and coach park, Lavatories and cafe (irregular opening hours).
